For many student athletes, finding the perfect balance between academics and a demanding training schedule can be a challenge. For Davian, a junior at Destinations Career Academy of Colorado and a resident of Maybell, Colorado, online learning has been a game-changer.

A Passion for Hockey

Davian started playing hockey at the age of seven and has been dedicated to the sport ever since. Now competing in a Junior Pro League, he spends more than 30 hours a week training, practicing, and playing games. His goal is to take this experience to the collegiate level and pursue both his athletic and academic aspirations.

Embracing Online Learning

This year marks Davian’s first experience with full-time online education. Transitioning to Destinations Career Academy of Colorado has provided him with the flexibility needed to accommodate his rigorous training schedule. Reflecting on his experience, Davian shared, “It’s been amazing. I really love the interactions I’ve had with both teachers and students. Everyone is so accepting. And I just love the environment and how willing teachers are to help.”

While his days are filled with hockey, Davian also finds time to care for his farm animals at home. This balance between sports, academics, and farm life highlights his dedication and time management skills.

Goals Beyond the Ice

Though hockey is a big part of Davian’s life, he has his sights set on a future in medicine. He aspires to become an anesthesiologist and plans to attend medical school after playing hockey in college. “I spend 30+ hours a week playing hockey and the teachers understand the situation I am in, but they still hold me accountable,” said Davian.

Supporting Elite Athletes Through NCAA-Approved Education

“Ensuring that our students experience a safe and supportive learning environment that helps them thrive is one of our biggest priorities,” said Destinations Career Academy of Colorado’s Executive Director, Teri Cady. “Receiving NCAA approval means that our state’s elite athlete students no longer have to choose between getting a sound education and pursuing their passions. They can manage their busy training schedules while still getting a Colorado public school education at Destinations Career Academy of Colorado that offers them the flexibility and opportunities to pursue their athletic passions.”

A Bright Future Ahead

Davian’s journey is a testament to the possibilities that online education provides for dedicated student-athletes. With a strong support system at Destinations Career Academy of Colorado, he is well on his way to achieving his dreams on and off the ice
