Staff Spotlight: Jorge Gonzalez, Interim Principal for Grades 4–8
From basketball to becoming an online Principal, Destinations Career Academy of Colorado (CODCA) is thrilled to welcome its new Interim Principal for 4-8th grade, Mr. Jorge Gonzalez. Mr. Gonzalez brings a decade of educational experience to the role, along with a strong commitment to student growth and leadership development. Originally from New Mexico, Mr. Gonzalez studied at the University of New Mexico and Western Governors University. He holds a master’s degree in secondary education as well as a master’s degree in educational leadership.
Prior to stepping into this leadership position, Mr. Gonzalez served as a social studies teacher at CODCA’s high school, where he built meaningful relationships with students and families. His classroom experience, combined with his background in educational leadership, positions him well to guide elementary and middle school students during this important stage of academic and personal development.
Throughout his career, Mr. Gonzalez has demonstrated a passion for helping students think critically, engage thoughtfully with their learning, and build confidence in their abilities. His experience teaching older students provides valuable insight into how early academic foundations shape high school success and long-term outcomes.
Outside of the classroom, Mr. Gonzalez is deeply committed to mentorship and teamwork. A lifelong basketball enthusiast, he has played since childhood and previously coached basketball. He continues to enjoy the sport and values the lessons it teaches about discipline, collaboration, and perseverance, qualities that also translate into academic success.
Mr. Gonzalez is also an avid video gamer, an interest that helps him connect with students and understand the evolving digital spaces where many young learners engage socially and creatively. In his new role, Mr. Gonzalez will focus on supporting teachers, strengthening student engagement, and ensuring families feel connected and informed. His combined experience in instruction and leadership reflects CODCA’s continued commitment to providing structured, high-quality online education for Colorado students.
With Mr. Gonzalez at the helm, CODCA’s elementary and middle school programs are positioned to continue fostering strong academic foundations, meaningful connections, and a supportive learning environment for students statewide.
