Sarah Jack’s Approach to Student Success at Destinations Career Academy of Colorado

As a licensed therapist, school counselor, and dedicated student advocate, Sarah Jack brings both professional expertise and heartfelt care to her role at Destinations Career Academy of Colorado. Now entering her sixth year with the school, Mrs. Jack has built strong connections with students and families across Colorado, offering encouragement, stability, and guidance as they navigate both academics and life.
Though she currently resides in Denver, Mrs. Jack’s journey spans coasts and campuses. A Colorado native, she moved to San Diego during middle school before graduating from UCLA and later returning to earn her bachelor’s degree in counseling from CU Denver.
“Traveling and exploring different areas helps me be a better counselor,” she shares. This summer, she’s putting that into practice while road-tripping through Oregon with her husband, 2-year-old, and their dog; making memories and recharging before the new school year begins.
At Destinations Career Academy of Colorado, Mrs. Jack provides vital mental health support for elementary and middle school students. From organizing Day of Wellness sessions with outside speakers to preparing for student orientation and helping new families feel welcome, her role is rooted in care and consistency.
This summer, she’s making personal welcome calls to newly enrolled students to ensure they feel supported and seen before the first day of school. She also reminds families that the transition from the busy pace of school to the quiet of summer can be challenging.
“Going from 60 miles an hour to zero can be a tough transition for students,” she explains. “Establishing simple routines like having breakfast at the same time each day can provide a sense of stability. Summer is also a great time to start new traditions, like Friday movie nights that create structure and give students something to look forward to.”
As a licensed therapist, Mrs. Jack is passionate about promoting mental wellness, not just during the school year, but all year long. She encourages families to consider educational day trips, stay mindful of screen time, and help children maintain connections, especially for those in more isolated rural areas.
Perhaps the most rewarding part of her role is watching students evolve over time. “I’ve seen students come in as struggling 7th graders and then watched them walk across the stage at graduation,” she reflects.
Destinations Career Academy of Colorado’s unique flexibility and career-focused programming allows students to pursue goals that go beyond traditional academic pathways, something Mrs. Jack deeply values. Whether students are college, bound or entering the workforce, she’s there to support their personal journey.
