February is a meaningful time in our online school community as we celebrate School Counseling Week (February 2-6), a chance to recognize the important role school counselors play in supporting students’ academic success, career development, and overall well-being. At Destinations Career Academy of Colorado (CODCA), our counselors work every day to help students navigate challenges, set goals, and grow into confident learners. To honor them, we’ve put together some simple but powerful tips students can use throughout the month (and beyond!) to stay balanced, focused, and supported.

Practice Kindness

February is a great reminder to spread kindness, to others, and to yourself. Small actions like including someone, saying thank you, or offering help can make a big difference in creating a positive school community.

Check In with Yourself

Pause for a moment and notice how you’re feeling. Stressed, tired, or overwhelmed? That’s okay. Naming your feelings is the first step toward managing them and knowing when you might need extra support.

Stick With Your Routines

By this point in the school year, many students have settled into their routines. Keep it up! Consistent sleep, regular meals, and set study times help your brain stay calm, focused, and ready to learn.

Break Big Tasks into Smaller Steps

Large projects and assignments can feel overwhelming. Try breaking them into smaller, more manageable steps and tackle one piece at a time; you’ll be surprised how much progress you can make.

Ask for Help When You Need It

If something feels confusing or stressful, don’t wait. Reach out early! Teachers, counselors, and support staff are here to help you succeed and want to see you thrive.

Be a Good Teammate

Whether you’re working in class, participating in clubs, or collaborating on group projects, teamwork matters. Listening, being respectful, and valuing others’ contributions makes everyone stronger.

Take Care of Your Body

Staying hydrated, eating regular meals, and getting enough rest all play a role in how you feel mentally and emotionally. Taking care of your body helps your mind feel better, too.

Try Something New

February is a great time to explore a new interest, join a club, or participate in a field trip. New experiences help you grow, build confidence, and learn more about yourself.

Use Positive Self-Talk

Pay attention to how you talk to yourself. Try replacing “I can’t do this” with “I’m still learning.” Positive self-talk can make a big difference in how you approach challenges.

Remember: You’re Not Alone

School can be challenging at times, but you don’t have to handle it on your own. There are people at CODCA who care about you and are ready to support you every step of the way.

We want to thank our counselors for the guidance, care, and encouragement they provide our students every day, not just during School Counseling Week, but year-round. We also want to thank our students who keep showing up, keep trying, and remember that support is always within reach.
